There is no such thing as ‘the one and only story’! We believe it is important that, during your studies, you take multiple perspectives into account and are able to offer different approaches for learners in diverse classrooms.

Through our teaching, we are committed to ensuring that you, as students, are able to address these developments effectively in your future teaching. To this end, we offer courses that deal, for example, with visual propaganda on social media, or seminars in which you work with partners outside the university to develop a modern and innovative culture of remembrance.

Our teaching is therefore designed to enable students to structure their lessons in a way that is relevant to real life and the present day, using problem-based and inquiry-based approaches.

and therefore incorporates elements of project-based learning, takes into account theories on the deep structures of teaching, utilises forms of deeper learning and follows approaches based on knowledge-based constructivism,

in order to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of learning in line with scientific findings. We achieve these objectives through both face-to-face teaching and digital blended learning courses.

We offer a wide range of methods that enable our students to apply specialist knowledge in a targeted manner to classroom practice. Our ‘History as Science Model’ identifies appropriate subject-specific didactic approaches and fosters a sound understanding of historical learning and knowledge-acquisition processes.

That is why we incorporate new academic approaches, research methods and the fundamentals of historical research into our teaching. To this end, we take you to museums, memorial sites and archives, and carry out projects and (inter)national collaborations.

We therefore incorporate elements of media didactics into our subject-specific didactics. Our own models, such as the HistoPAC model, and methodological strategies, such as the planning matrix model, help students to develop their own digital teaching and learning environments and to apply subject content in a practical way. To this end, they use tools such as Actionbound, webquests, AI tools and virtual learning spaces.
