Research Projects

As part of our diverse and, in some cases, interdisciplinary research projects, our researchers are investigating contemporary teaching and learning, developing new approaches to significant and topical issues, and thereby shaping the educational processes of the future.

Porträt Nadine Anskeit

Our research findings are intended to be put into practice in schools and wider society, where they will provide impetus for contemporary teaching and learning. This is particularly successful in our knowledge transfer projects, where we develop innovative concepts in collaboration with partners from civil society and the education sector.

Research landscape

The close link between theory and practice, as well as the transfer of research activities and findings into teaching and continuing professional development, is a key priority for us. To this end, our university collaborates with numerous inter-university, regional, national and European partners.

The Teaching and Learning Laboratories (LLL) are a particular flagship of our university. At these extracurricular learning venues for children and young people, we test and evaluate new educational programmes and teaching concepts for the STEM subjects: biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics and technology. These programmes and concepts are developed as part of our educational research.

Furthermore, our areas of specialisation set strategic priorities in terms of thematic focus. The researchers at our university collaborate here both across disciplines and departments, as well as with external partners.

Selected doctoral programmes

For many of our PhD students, the thematically focused doctoral programmes provide an ideal environment for their research and personal professional development.

Already completed

As part of the ‘Quality Initiative for Teacher Training’ funded by the federal and state governments, our university is further developing the ‘Media Education and Digital Education’ module – which is already compulsory for its teacher training students – and is designing, testing and evaluating innovative digital teaching and learning concepts in seven subject-specific sub-projects, whilst continuing to expand its Innovation Space.

The seven sub-projects are being carried out as part of a postgraduate training programme.
